Why does the body make white discharge when you get a yeast infection?

Question by : Why does the body make white discharge when you get a yeast infection?
I just recently got a yeast infection, and I realized that many websites and how most doctors diagnose if you have a yeast infection is if the woman has thick cottage cheese like discharge. But i’m wondering is why the body makes this type of discharge when you have a yeast infection? and why does it smell like fish, and or bad typically when you have one.

Best answer:

Answer by Q
The body doesn’t make the discharge–the “discharge” is actually the yeast, which is an independent fungus that lives in your vagina. It’s always there, but when it grows to amounts larger than normal, they call it a yeast infection. Because it’s grown in large enough numbers, it becomes visible as the white cottage cheese-like substance.

is Vaginitis the same as a yeast infection?

Question by WhipperSnapper: is Vaginitis the same as a yeast infection?
I’m doing a report or candida albicans which causes yeast diseases and symptoms (i.e yeast infections) so I was wondering if vaginitis is the same as yeast infections. Can you let me know?

Answer by Jay-Jay
No, they’re not the same.

A yeast infection isn’t a disease it’s an infection caused when the natural yeast within the body overgrow, where as vaginitis is a more general irritation of the vulva – this can be caused by a yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis or general irritation from contact with chemicals such as soaps.

What is the best treatment for a yeast infection?

Question by nolegirl09: What is the best treatment for a yeast infection?
I think i have a yeast infection, because i feel discomfort and it burns when i go to the bathroom? Its also sore. Do you have any advice on how to treat this?

thanks

Go to the doctor if this is your first yeast infection.

For me, Monistat and Diflucan both didn’t work. I had to have a prescription strength yeast infection cream. I used it for seven days and it worked great. Diflucan works great for some people, but it didn’t make a difference at all to me.

ETA: If you do use Monistat, make sure you get the 7 day and not the 1 or 3. The 7 day is more effective. The 3 and 1 day treatments are concentrated and can really burn your skin.

Q&A: Is it possible to get a yeast infection 2 days into antibiotics?

Question by It’s just me: Is it possible to get a yeast infection 2 days into antibiotics?
I have been taking keflex for a few spider bites and I’m supposed to take 1, 4x a day for 7 days. I think I’m getting a yeast infection but it’s only been 2 full days into the pills. Thanks.

The problem with antibiotics is that they work against all bacteria in your body and do not discriminate against the good or bad kind, so I think it is quite possible you have a yeast infection but please remember that yeast infection symptoms can be similar to other unrelated conditions, your doctor will diagnose for sure.

Good bacteria actually help to keep yeast levels in control, a sort of inner body balancing act if you like.

When the good bacteria are killed off by antibiotics then yeast wins the battle and starts the infection by multiplying out of control.

You need to try to replace the good bacteria, to restore the balance and as mentioned a good way to do this is to eat yoghurt. But you need to eat the variety with the live cultures, commonly marketed as pro biotic.

It is preferable to eat the natural variety at first, if you like this, for best results, at least until you are off the antibiotics.

You will also find that pro biotic products are not just limited to yoghurts I am seeing milk shakes and other items appearing at the stores.

How long does a yeast infection last? And how do you get it?

Question by Ashleigh: How long does a yeast infection last? And how do you get it?
These past two weeks I’ve had a serious itch in my vaginal area, just realized it’s an yeast infection. I’ve dont some research but none of it gave information about about how long it could last. I’ve never had intercourse before but I have been fingered not sure if i could of gotten it from that. But let me know.

It will last until it is treated. You need an anti-fungal cream, or oral tablet to treat it. Yeast infections will not go away on their own, the yeast will continue to multiply. If this is the first time this has happened, I suggest you see your doctor, as other things can cause this sort of itching, some of which can be serious.

You can get yeast infections in a number of ways, intercourse with an infected partner being only one. If you wear tight fitting underwear (especially if it is not cotton) or tights regularly, using strongly scented soap or shower gel, or from having diabetes (the excess sugar in your urine encourages yeast growth); this is one reason I think you should check with your doctor.

Natural yogurt can help reduce the itch, but please get this checked out!

Does anyone know of a good, non-antibiotic treatment of Candida?

Question by What?: Does anyone know of a good, non-antibiotic treatment of Candida?
I’m pretty sensitive to them and want to give something else a try. I’ve tried Threelac, but, the side effects were horrid (even in reduced dosage) and I want to know if there’s something else that could help. Thanks.

Do you have an actual Candida infection, ie thrush or a vaginal infection?

C. ablicans is a favorite of cranks. They love to claim people have “candida overgrowth,” a completely fictitious condition they invented to sell supplements and treatments. Real systemic candiasis is a life threatening condition that needs anti-fungals. However, this only happens in individuals that are extremely immune compromised.

For the real C. albicans infections, anti-fungals are just about the only thing that actual works.

Q&A: How common is a yeast infection after treatment for bacterial vaginosis?

Question by Erin: How common is a yeast infection after treatment for bacterial vaginosis?
I was recently diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis (bv) and am on antibiotics (metrogel) for treatment. I know that antibiotics can cause other problems and even lead to other infections like yeast infections afterwards- the doctor did not give me anything to take for yeast afterwards. I was wondering if anyone has taken treatment for bv and successfully avoided a yeast infection afterwards or if i am doomed to have one.

Your doctor can actually prescribe a medication (pill form) that is taken along with your antibiotics that will prevent a yeast infection. Since I am prone to yeast infections, I have taken the medication and have had great results when taking antibiotics – no yeast infections during the antibiotic treatment. It has been awhile since I’ve taken the medication, so unfortunately, I can’t remember the name, but contact your doctor if you are still concerned.

Q&A: Has anyone had dizziness problems with candida?

Question by countrychic_83: Has anyone had dizziness problems with candida?
I’ve had mild dizziness for the last 3 years I’ve had MRI scans, been to chiropractors etc etc etc and no one seems to know whats wrong with me although I have just seen a naturopath and he seems to think I have candida.

Answer by IBASI Healing Ministries

I’m a clinical pharmacist and have trained about 5yrs in acupuncture and traditional chinese medicine. Whenever western medicine and chiropractic can not solve the problem, I always refer my patients to a licensed Acupuncturist who is full-scope, meaning expert in chinese herbs as well as moxa, medical massage, cupping and needles, etc.

I have confidence that they will do a differential diagnosis that will easily pin-point the imbalance that is causing your mild dizziness. Make sure you opt for chinese herb formulas that are made in the USA and tested for GMP (USA codes for good manufacturing processes) to avoid the issue of heavy metal poisoning and contaminants coming out of China these days.

You may also want to check with your Naturopathics about heavy metal hair analysis – some heavy metal poisonings may produce mild symptoms like yours. I am assuming you have had a clinical pharmacist such as myself review ALL your medications, herb and drug suppliments? Many herbs and drugs, and combinations there of, not to mention illegal or illicit drugs, can cause lightheadedness and dizziness.

Best of luck to you,

Dr. D. Nostrum, Pharm.D.

Is it possible you can develop yeast infection while taking antibiotics?

Question by mamamia08: Is it possible you can develop yeast infection while taking antibiotics?
My daughter shes taking Augmentin antibiotics for 4 days now. It seems like she has a yeast infection because she’s having some discharge and icthing. Is that possible while your on antibiotics for couple of days only?

Best answer:

Answer by Emily Dew

Absolutely! Antibiotics wipe out the bad bacteria in your body along with the good bacteria and that leaves you open to a secondary infection. I always make sure I eat a container of yogurt every day when I’m taking antibiotics or else I will develop a yeast infection too.

What can you eat on a candida diet?

Question by Brokn: What can you eat on a candida diet?
I don’t think I could survive more than a day or two with just meat and green leafy veggies but as a kid we took so much tetracycline that I think I should give the diet a try and see if I feel better.

Best answer:

Answer by Yogesh G

Most of Candia diets restrict the amount of carbs to about 20 to 60 grams per day

Breads are omitted because they represent carbohydrates as wel as yeast
An acceptable bread would be Indian flat breads (Roti) made of durum whole-grain flour, followed by Corn Tortilla from Mexico.

Dairy products are normally avoided due to high fats. However one cup of fat-free natural plain yogurt with live culture can be helpful.

You can leafy vegetables: spinach, collard green, mustard greens, lettuce. In addition, eat broccoli, Green and Red bell peppers, celery.

One must avoid foods that contain sugar, honey or jaggery.
