I’m experiencing pain while urinating. How can I tell if it is from a yeast infection or a bladder infection?
Question by Lindsey C: I’m experiencing pain while urinating. How can I tell if it is from a yeast infection or a bladder infection?
So, I’m experiencing pain (burning) while urinating and some itching. How can I tell if it’s a yeast infection or a bladder infection? I’m not really sure how to tell the difference as the symptoms are similar. I’ve had both and I’ve been to the doctor (so please don’t just say, go see a doc) previously, but I’m still unsure how to determine which one it is.
Thanks.
ETA: I’m currently on my period, so it’s a little difficult to tell if I have any discharge (which is also why I was thinking it was a yeast infection-because I use pads as I get horrible cramps when I use tampons). Thanks for all your help!

If you have a yeast infection, you will notice a lumpy, yellowish discharge with a fishy odor. Yeast infections are most common either right before or just after your period due to the pH imbalance around your vaginal area.
A UTI (urinary tract infection) causes burning while urinating, and you feel the urge to urinate more frequently, but only actually pee a small amount.
What do you think? Answer below!
If there’s burning, then it probably is a bladder infection. Does your discharge have a cottage-cheese like texture? If so, then it could be a yeast infection.
I think you need to see a doctor instead of asking people on line. It could be a combination of both, and lead to something more serious. You can always ask the doctor to explain in more detail what the difference is.
They are one of the same go to your doctor and get anti biotic’s before it becomes to bad that you can not pass urine or start passing blood instead , you say you have had both before, once this has been treated keep notes of what you have been doing to see what may be the trigger of what is causing the infection, to avoid this in the future.
I would guess that since you have burning and itching while urinating that you have a yeast infection. A bladder infection would not cause itching. Try an over the counter treatment like monistat, but get the 3 or 5 day treatment. The one day treatment does not always work. If it does not go away, call your doctor.
